The highly anticipated North London Derby is here!
Tottenham Hotspur will welcome biggest rivals, Arsenal to Brisbane Road for tomorrow's WSL fixture. Spurs currently sit 5th in the table, just one spot behind the Gunners and only due to goal difference.
Tottenham Hotspur’s season has been considerably better than last season, having won five of the eight games played, equal to the total amount won last year. Their biggest loss of the season came in game week three where they suffered a 1-5 defeat at home to Manchester City, the current leaders of the WSL. In their most recent games, both WSL and League Cup, they have won four and lost two, with their best scoreline this season being a 3-0 win against Birmingham City thanks to goals from Olivia Holdt and Amanda Nilden. Finishing 11th last season to being 5th this season, is a reflection on the appointment of manager Martin Ho at the beginning of the season.
Arsenal on the other hand, have started the season in a way no one expected after their Champions League success last season. Having only won 4 games from the eight played, they sit in fourth and a win tomorrow could take them third. After scoring nine goals across the first two games, it looked as though the team were going to be strong title contenders, however their most recent form says differently. In their last six games in the WSL and Champions League, they have won 3, lost two and drew one. Their draw was the one that sparked conversation after the controversial goal decisions in the game against Chelsea last weekend. Following the disappointing result at the weekend, the Gunners will be eager to return to the top three to fight for Champions League football, once more.
The sides have played each other a total of 11 times since Spurs’ promotion back in 2019, Arsenal have won nine of these occasions, Tottenham one, and one draw.
It’s the last of six games this weekend, kicking off at 2:30pm at Brisbane Road, if you’re unable to attend the game, it will be available to stream on Sky Sports.
