Premier League Review: Arsenal continue excellent run of form with a 1-0 victory over Fulham

The Gunners extended their unbeaten league run to 5 games since their only loss of the 2025/26 season.

In their previous 2 meetings with Fulham at Craven Cottage, Arsenal have been unable to pick up a victory, despite having a reasonable record at the Cottage. However, they put in a dominant display on Saturday, allowing them to top the table after a captivating weekend of Premier League football.

The 1st half was quite flat, with both teams struggling to register a shot on target. Riccardo Calafiori hit a sublime shot but was ultimately ruled out for offside. From then on, Fulham managed to get a foothold in the game as they had a flurry of chances. Nevertheless, Arsenal maintained attacking pressure going into half time.

Fulham’s downfall in the second half could well have been a consequence of losing Joachim Andersen shortly before the break – the centre-back had acquired the most minutes out of every Fulham player this season in the league.

Even a point a piece would have been a sufficient result for the away side to sit at the summit of the table, but they continued to push on in the second 45. The goal that broke the deadlock came in the 58th minute – from one of Arsenal’s deadly corners. Trossard kept a close eye on the ball as it travelled over from the right and managed to get a connection resulting in a goal.

The goal sprung both managers into action – with Marco Silva hoping for attacking reinforcements whilst Arteta wanted to rejuvenate his midfield. Silva even brought former Gunner Emile Smith-Rowe into the action in an attempt to equalise.

It only looked worse for Fulham shortly after the hour mark as Bukayo Saka was tackled by substitute Kevin in an unlawful way. Fulham were eventually saved by VAR as referee Anthony Taylor was asked to review the pitch-side monitor.

Arsenal saw the game out in a disciplined fashion to fly to the top of the league with a gap of 3 points between them and Manchester City in 2nd place, whilst Fulham are now in 14th place – 3 points above 18th placed Nottingham Forest who hold the last relegation spot.

Next up in the league, Arsenal return to the Emirates Stadium to face Crystal Palace. Fulham have a tough test as they travel to Tyneside to face Newcastle next Saturday.
