Has Tyson Fury Really Hung Up His Gloves for good?

Just months after announcing his retirement from professional boxing in January 2025, the “Gypsy King” Tyson Fury has set the boxing world alight again with strong hints of a potential comeback.

The Morecambe native, who boasts a record of 34 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw, was recently spotted training with his former coach, SugarHill, fuelling speculation about a return to the ring.

Fury himself added to the intrigue by posting a cryptic video on Instagram, saying, “Just in the gym. Happened to bump into somebody you might know.”

He then turned the camera to SugarHill, who responded with “You know what time it is,” before Fury added, “You know what’s coming.” This playful exchange has sent fans and social media into a frenzy, questioning whether the 36-year-old is indeed preparing for another chapter in his illustrious career.

This wouldn’t be the first time Fury has hinted at a return from retirement. After his victory over Dillian Whyte in April 2022, Fury stated he was hanging up his gloves, but returned to defeat Derek Chisora later that year.

This history of U-turns has led many to view his January announcement with skepticism.

Several factors could be contributing to a potential return. Fury’s passion for the sport and the disciplined structure of training camps are known to benefit his mental well-being.

However could it be the lucrative prospect of a highly anticipated all-British showdown with Anthony JJoshua tempting Fury out of retirement again?

Promoter Frank Warren believes this “generational” fight is the only one that could tempt Fury back into the ring.

Even Oleksandr Usyk, who handed Fury his two professional defeats, believes the “Gypsy King” will continue boxing. Ahead of his rematch with Daniel Dubois in July, Usyk mentioned Fury as a potential future opponent, adding, “He’s not retired. I think Tyson will continue training, continue boxing, because he’s a great man.”

Fury himself has responded to Usyk’s comments, stating he would fight him “any time, any place,” and even suggested a trilogy fight in the UK with 100,000 fans in attendance.

The recent activity and statements from Fury and his camp suggest Tyson could be heading for a return.

The rest of the boxing world now waits with bated breath to see if the “Gypsy King” will indeed make another sensational return to the sport, potentially setting up one of the biggest fights in British boxing history against Anthony Joshua.
