Karen Carney came back to the ballroom with a bang on Saturday night, as she stunned the judges and the audience with her fabulous, fast paced charleston!

Karen said that “[last] Saturday was just wow” and that she was “really happy that we nailed the choreography and hopefully did Birmingham proud too” with their incredible Peaky Blinders themed Argentine Tango. In her introduction video, Karen also commented on the fact that they’re now halfway through the competition and that she’s “so very grateful” to still be in the competition and doesn’t “want this to end”.

This week, she and Carlos danced the Charleston, which is one of the specialty dances on the show. They stressed the importance of timing and synchronisation in this dance during the couple’s introduction video, and Carlos also commented that “Karen’s stamina is incredible”.

After their dance, Craig commented that Karen is a “right little bobby-dazzler” and that the dance was “absolutely incredible”. He did however suggest that the dance “could have done with a bit more swivel” to really emulate the charleston style. Motsi noted that Karen’s energy is “contagious” and that her expression in the dance is “so natural”. Shirley suggested that Karen didn't “look solid on [her] feet” during the dance, but that “it was definitely a fast paced difficult routine that [she] handled very well”. Anton commented on the lindy-style section of the dance, saying that it was “tremendous”.

After some very positive feedback from the judges, Karen and Carlos spoke with Claudia about the dance, and Karen said that “it’s energetic and it really suits [her]”. This was reflected in the judges' scores, where Craig and Shirley awarded the couple an eight each, Anton gave them a nine, and Motsi gave them a ten. This meant that they had a total score of 35, leaving them in joint third position on the leaderboard overall.

Luckily, Karen and Carlos did not have to face the dance-off this week and have successfully made it through to week 8 of the competition. It was sadly athlete and Gladiators star Harry Aikines-Aryeetey and his partner Karen Hauer that were eliminated from the competition this week, as he faced off against La Voix in the dance-off.

Tune in next Saturday night to see what Karen Carney will perform next!
