In the spookiest night of the competition, Karen Carney delivered an incredible Peaky Blinders themed dance in Halloween week of Strictly Come Dancing.
This week, Karen and Carlos performed an Argentine Tango themed to the television show Peaky Blinders, which particularly meant a lot to Karen as she is from Birmingham. In the introduction, she and Carlos visited the Birmingham canals and she told him how her dad is “a proper Brummie” and that it was “very nostalgic” to come back to where her family is from. Back in the training room, Karen commented that “the argentine tango has flat shoes and a flat cap, so [she’s] buzzing” and “super excited” to perform on Saturday night.
After the dance, Motsi commented on the calibre of the dances tonight, saying that their dance was “another fabulous number”. She complimented the way that Karen was “using [her] standing leg” as it was “always switching, changing direction” throughout the dance. Shirley noted that Karen was more “sure footed” and she “liked the intensity” in the dance. She also noticed the “role reversal” that happened in the dance, making it very “entertaining”. Anton stated that the dance was “extraordinarily good”, but Craig commented that he “would’ve liked to have seen a smoother passing of [her] feet” despite the “clean” and “confident” way that she performed.
With Claudia, Karen digressed that Peaky Blinders is her “favourite show” and that she was “proud” to be representing Birmingham. For their scores this week, Craig and Shirely awarded the couple a nine each, and Motsi and Anton both gave a 10, giving them a total score of 38 (meaning that they were 2nd overall on the leaderboard.
Luckily, Karen and Carlos made it through to the next week of the competition. Instead it was actor and model Ellie Goldstein who was eliminated from the competition, after the judges voted to save actress Balvinder Sopal in the dance off. Tune in next Saturday on BBC One to see what Karen and Carlos’ next dance will be!
