WSL Preview: Arsenal vs Manchester City

Published on 13 February 2026 at 12:16

This Sunday (8th February), Manchester City will travel down to London to face Arsenal at the Emirates at 12:00. Manchester City are currently sat 13 points ahead of Arsenal as they sit at the top of the table, but Arsenal are a game behind due to their fixture against Leicester City getting rescheduled. Manchester City have claimed the 3 points the last two times they have faced Arsenal, the most recent was earlier this season where they took the 3-2 win in the 88th minute stopping the two teams sharing the points.

Arsenal's last game was the women's champions cup final where they beat the Corinthians in extra time after a goal from Caitlin Foord, meaning they won their first trophy of the season. Arsenal's last league game was against Manchester United at home where the game ended o-o back at the beginning of January. Arsenal are still competing in 3 competitions this season out of the 5 they were in after winning the Champions cup and getting knocked out of the league cup by Manchester United.

Manchester City’s last league game was just last weekend unlike Arsenal's. They faced Chelsea at home and gained the 3 points in an amazing 5-1 win. It is currently looking like Manchester City will take home the WSL title at the end of the season earning themselves some silverware and a spot in the competition they fell short of this year, the champions league.

The January transfer window has recently ended and both teams made some signings but also saw some players go. Arsenal signed Smilla Holmberg from Hammarby FC and goalkeeper Barbora Votikova on loan from Slavia Prague, this will be a big help to Arsenal giving that they are currently missing Manuela Zinsberger due to and ACL injury, Daphne Van Domselar not making her full return and due to Anneke Borbe going down and having to come off in the Champions Cup so having another goalkeeper will be beneficial to Arsenal. Smilla Holmberg has already been seen making a crucial impact on the pitch and has been helping Arsenal create challenges as well as defending the back line. Arsenal have also sent 4 players out on loan with two of them remaining in the WSL, Jenna Nighswonger is on loan at Aston Villa and Laila Harbart is on loan at Everton, meanwhile Cecily Wellesley-Smith and Jessie Gale are gaining experience outside of the WSL. Jessie Gale is on loan at WSL 2 side Bristol City and Cecily Wellesley-Smith has gone on loan abroad to Damallsvenskan side FC Rosengard.

Manchester City also made a great signing in the transfer window, from Portland Thorns Manchester City signed Sam Coffey who is crucial in the midfield and knows what it's like to win a trophy. Manchester City did also send two players out on loan to Celtic, Poppy Pritchard and Tara O’Hanlon. If you aren’t attending this game you can watch it on Sky Showcase and Sky Sports+, tune in for the action and see if Arsenal can gain a crucial 3 points hoping to still be able to play champions league football or if City will gain the 3 points creating an even bigger gap between the teams who sit below them, or they may just share the points.
