WSL Preview: Brighton vs London City Lionesses

Published on 31 January 2026 at 23:56

This Sunday, Brighton will take on London City Lionesses in the fourteenth round of the WSL. With these teams sitting just one point apart from one another on the league table, this match could see a significant change in fortune for either team, boosting them up the league table.

The hosts, Brighton, have succeeded in three out of their past five fixtures, scoring five goals in total over these five games. Their only two losses came against Chelsea (current WSL title holders) and Aston Villa, where they lost 2-1 after Villa scored twice within two minutes in the second half. Brighton’s top scorer this season is Kiko Seike, who has bagged four goals and two assists in 13 matches for the club, and is expected to be in the starting 11 for The Seagulls. The team have had relative success this season, with five wins to their name, but a total of six losses making this match a key one for them to succeed in.

The London City Lionesses have had a stellar first season in the WSL since being promoted at the end of the last season and currently sit in 8th place on the league table. Out of their previous five fixtures, though, they have only won once, against Sunderland in the FA Cup Round of 32. From the rest of their fixtures, they have lost three times, and most recently against Manchester City, where the final scoreline was 2-1 to the Citizens, which meant that their total goals scored in five games was only two. That being said, their top scorer this season is Freya Godfrey, who has scored three times and assisted twice in just nine appearances for the team, and she is expected to start in the match as well.

Head-to-head, these two teams have only faced each other three times, with Brighton coming out on top twice, which have coincidentally also been the two most recent clashes between the two teams.

Brighton look set to take the victory from London City Lionesses once more, but will the visitors be able to clinch a victory from the Seagulls? If you’re not attending the match, the game will be available to stream on Sky Sports, with kick-off at 11:55!
