Last week the 4th round of the Adobe women's FA cup took place. The first games took place on Thursday with West Bromwich Albion facing Everton. Everton took the lead early on with a goal from Momiki in the 9’ minute, the game finished 5-0 meaning Everton advanced to the next round.
The next couple of fixtures took place on Friday. Newcastle faced West ham at home, and in the 38’ minute West ham scored their first goal of the match from a penalty. West ham beat Newcastle 3-0 allowing them to advance to the fifth round.
Next, on Saturday Sunderland lost 1-0 to London City Lionesses, this game saw a lot of yellow cards, given to both teams, but ultimately it was Sangaré’s goal that sent Sunderland out of the competition, Van de Donk also made her comeback after being injured. Chelsea beat Crystal Palace 5-0 at home with the first goal in the 13' minute from Bright before Kerr going and scoring twice, Reiten scoring from the spot and Thompson scoring the last goal of the game.
The other 12 fixtures all took place on Sunday. Tottenham Hotspur beat Leicester City at home 3-0, Brighton & Hove Albion beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 with the first goal coming from a penalty and Liverpool beat London Bees away 6-0 with their new signing O’Sullivan scoring the first goal just 6 minutes into the game.
Bristol City beat Southampton in extra time; at full time the game was 1-1 and Syme scored her second of the match in extra time giving Bristol City the 2-1 victory.
Manchester United scored really early in their fixture against Burnley at home, with Le Tissier putting the ball in the back of the net just 2 minutes in, more goals came after this from Manchester United and they won the game 5-0, Manchester United also had their youngest debutant Layla Drury score.
Chatham Town made history after beating York City 3-0, this is the first time Chatham Town have ever advanced to the 5th round of the FA Cup. Sheffield United scored early on against Ipswich Town just 4 minutes in but Ipswich brought one back meaning at half time it was 1-1, in the second half Devlin scored again for Sheffield allowing them to take the 2-1 win and progress to the next round.
Oxford United beat Middlesbrough 3-1 despite being 1 nil down in the 73’ minute. Manchester City beat AFC Bournemouth away and took home a 6-0 win with Shaw scoring the first, Hemp getting her name on the score sheet and both Miedema and Coombs scoring 2. Birmingham City also scored 6 goals against Hull City but despite not keeping a clean sheet they won 6-2 allowing them to advance on to the fifth round.
Arsenal left it later than most to score their first goal against Villa, Blackstenius gave Arsenal the 1 nil lead in the 52’ minute and then 10 minutes later Little put the ball in the back of the net securing Arsenal the 2-0 win. And the last game of the 4th round we saw Charlton Athletic getting a massive 10-0 win against Swindon Town.
The fifth round will be played over the weekend of 21/22 February with all games being played at 14:00. Oxford will face Charlton at home, Tottenham Hotspur will face London City Lionesses away. We will see a Merseyside derby in the fifth round with Liverpool facing Everton at home. Sheffield United will play away against Manchester City who currently sit at the top of the WSL table being 10 points clear from Arsenal and 6 points ahead of last season winners Chelsea. Birmingham City will face Chatham who have made history reaching this stage of the competition.
West Ham will face Brighton & Hove Albion at home, and Bristol City will have to face last season's Champions League winners Arsenal away. And finally, we will see two top teams who both play in the champions league face each other with Manchester United traveling down to London to face Chelsea.
