PREMIER LEAGUE: Chelsea drop points against Brighton

The clash between Chelsea and Brighton seemed to be heading for a draw, but Chelsea’s strong performance in the first half dramatically turned into a 1-3 loss after a red card and two late goals.

The game started so well for the blues who were in control the first half. The finishing touch on this dominating first half was delivered by Enzo Fernández, who made 1-0 in the 24th minute.

The game however turned upside down, only five minutes into the second half: when the referee’s whistle was heard after Trevoh Chalobah harshly clattered into Diego Gómez. The result of a misplaced pass form Andrey Santos. The VAR intervened with a clear verdict: a straight red card. The Blues immediately got flashbacks form last week’s game and once again Chelsea was forced to continue with only ten man.

The VAR was called upon again when Chelsea’s Malo Gusto made contact with Minteh’s head inside the penalty box. The VAR estimated the situation and decided that Gusto’s was in fact heading to the ball and no penalty would be awarded.

The game even took a chaotic turn of events when Danny Welbeck scored the equalizer in the 77Th minute. Just as the match seemed to be decided with a draw, it was none other than one of Brighton’s latest transfer Maxim De Cuyper who made the travelling supporters go wild by scoring in the 92nd minute.

The travelling Brighton fans barely had the time to recover from their ecstatic state, when Danny Welbeck delivered the final blow by making the 1-3. A much-needed victory for Brighton, who now climb out of the Premier League danger zone.
