Hamano will spend the remainder of the season on loan to Spurs from London rivals, Chelsea.

Head Coach Martin Ho says: “This is a good opportunity for Maika to continue her development in a demanding environment, and we are looking forward to working with her for the remainder of the season.”

The young, Japanese international joined Chelsea in January 2023 from INAC Kobe Leonessa, and was immediately loaned out to Hammarby IF in the Damallsvenskan.

After returning to the WSL from her loan spell, Hamano made her debut against Bristol City in December of 2023, before scoring her first goal in April 2024 against Aston Villa and making eight appearances for the Blues in the 2023/24 season.

The following season, Hamano featured 30 times and scored six goals across all competitions for Chelsea and in total has featured 45 times since moving to the English league. She has been part the squads who won the 2023/4 and 2024/25 Women’s Super League title, 2024/25 Women’s FA Cup and 2024/25 Women’s League Cup.

Hamano made her first senior debut in October 2022 in a friendly against Nigeria, before going on to earn one cap in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup the year after. She was then named in the Japanese squad for the 2024 Paris Olympics, and again in the side that won the 2025 SheBelieves Cup.

Maika says: "Watching the team this season, I really felt they’ve been playing some great football, and I thought if I joined this team, I could develop a lot as a player.

“I want to show fans the connection with my team-mates and exciting plays. At the end of the day, football is about winning and I’ll do my best to contribute to the team’s success.”

Everyone at Chelsea wishes Maika the best with her time at Spurs.
