West Ham sack Graham Potter

This morning it was announced that West Ham manager Graham Potter was sacked by the club after only eight months in charge. It was announced this afternoon that his role will be taken over with immediate effect by Nuno Espirito

As the team are currently 19th in the Premier League table, the Hammers made it clear that “a change [was] necessary to improve the team’s position” and they went on to say that “results and performances [...] have not matched expectations” over the course of Potter’s management of the club.

Potter himself released a statement through the League Manager’s Association, stating that he was "disappointed" to be leaving the club; he did, however, acknowledge that results under his management “have not been good enough”. This statement is clear in the club’s results as of late, as Potter only had a win rate of 26% and an average of 1.0 points per game, which seems meagre in comparison to his predecessor David Moyes who had a win rate of 38% and average points per game of 1.36.

It appears as if former Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito is set to take over the mantle of West Ham manager after it was revealed that he was in “positive talks” with the club’s board. He is likely to be in place before the club’s match against Everton on Monday.

Considering Potter’s appointment was supposed to bring a new start for the Hammers, his reign has resulted in a further downwards spiral for the club which clearly evidences the reasons for his dismissal from West Ham.
