Wycombe Wanderers have secured the signing of Connor Taylor from Bristol Rovers. Although the length of his contract is undisclosed, the 23-year-old defender thrived during his time at the Gas, winning Player of the Year in the 2024/25 season despite the club’s failure to retain its League One status.
He started his senior career at Stoke, in which he went on to make 15 appearances for the Potters. After loan moves to Ashton United, Chester and then Bristol Rovers during their promotion-winning season, the Gas opted to sign the centre-back on a permanent deal in August 2023. During his loan spell, he picked up the Young Player of the Year award. Taylor is a physical centre-back who brings presence to a back line, especially given his height of 6ft 6in.
Despite their relegation making the 24/25 season a disappointment, Taylor was a standout performer, making 42 league appearances last season. Given this, Rovers understandably were aware of the challenge they would face in keeping Connor Taylor, with the club receiving several bids from Peterborough United. However, Wycombe swooped in with a better offer that evidently met Rovers’ valuation. It is a difficult one for the club - seeing a player of such quality leave - but it was expected once rumours began circulating about bids for him.
Taylor made his debut for Wanderers in their opening game of the season against Stockport County, which ultimately ended in a 2-1 defeat. He also picked up a yellow card. Connor Taylor will no doubt settle into Wycombe’s side, replacing Sonny Bradley – who returned to Derby County before departing for Lincoln City. The two are similar in height, with Taylor taking over the role of dominating aerial situations and leading defensive duties.
Connor Taylor became Wycombe’s 12th arrival this summer and arrived for an undisclosed fee.
