WSL - Arsenal vs Leicester City Preview

Arsenal take on Leicester in a rescheduled Women’s Super League fixture which takes place at 7:30pm tomorrow at the Emirates Stadium. Here’s what you can expect in this clash!

Twenty-six points ahead of their opponents, Renee Slegers’ new and improved Arsenal team look to be the front runners heading into this fixture. Having won all of their previous five matches, the Gunners were in top form before the most recent international break; however, they appear to be facing a slight injury crisis, with many of their key players such as Alessia Russo, Daphne Van Domselaar and Katie McCabe picking up injuries during time spent with their international teams. Although concerning - particularly for Van Domselaar who looks set to miss the rest of the season - this does give an opportunity for less experienced players to have a shot at breaking into the Arsenal starting lineup. The Gunners currently sit at second on the WSL table, and these few matches left in the season are crucial in order for them to stand a chance of beating the current leaders, Chelsea, to the title.

Leicester City, though only with 16 points this season in the WSL, the Foxes have won two out of their five previous matches and are three points ahead of their closest competitors, Aston Villa. Despite a promising four victories so far this season, they remain an awkward two points behind Tottenham Hotspurs, meaning they must put in the work in order to hold onto any hope that they may overtake and place themselves in a more prosperous position in the league standings at the end of this domestic season. One of Leicester City’s most impressive young talents, Ruby Mace, picked up an injury almost a month ago, which was thankfully not an ACL injury as it was initially feared to be, which leaves hope for her to still have the opportunity to represent England in the Euros this summer.

Head-to-head, these two teams have faced off eight times, with Arsenal having won all of these previous fixtures. Most recently, Arsenal beat the Foxes in a narrow 1-0 win at the beginning of this season, which could suggest that there is a bit of hope for Leicester City to be able to clinch even one point from the Gunners in tomorrow’s match.

If you're not attending tomorrow at the Emirates, the match is available to watch on Sky Sports, with the match kicking off at 7:30pm.
