Belgium vs England: Nations League Preview

On Tuesday night, the two sides will face each other once again with Belgium aiming to avoid another heavy defeat following the 5-0 loss on Friday night in Bristol.

RECENT PERFORMANCES:

In their last six performances, Belgium have won three games and lost three. Their Nations League campaign will not have started how they hoped as their three losses were all part of the group stages, leaving them bottom of the table with zero points and a goal difference of -1. Their most recent win was a 2-1 victory over Ukraine in the European Championship Qualifying Play-Offs, where Mariam Toloba and Tessa Wullaert were on the scoresheet.

In their six previous matches, the Lionesses have won four and drawn two. Their most recent win, before playing Belgium on Friday night, was a 1-0 victory at home to Spain. The first game of their Nations League campaign was away to Portugal, the game ended 1-1, Alessia Russo scored an early goal for England but with only minutes to go, Kika Nazareth equalised. England currently sit top of the group stage table, on seven points and a goal difference of seven.

STAND OUT PLAYERS:

Belgium’s Amber Tysiak, has represented her country regularly through the youth levels, including captaining her side during the 2019 U19 European Championships in Scotland. She received her first senior call up in 2021, and made her debut against the Netherlands in a 6-1 defeat. In 2022, Tysiak was part of the squad that won the Pinatar Cup after beating Russia on penalties. She also started both legs of the play-off final for the 2025 Euros, helping her country to successfully secure qualification. She has a total of 21 appearances and five goals for her country. Her first goal, turned hat trick, was against Armenia in a record 19-0 win during the 2023 Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign.

England’s Aggie Beever-Jones, also represented her country through the youth levels. She has been part of the European Championships squad for the U17s, U19s and U23s, this summer may see her receive a call up to the 2025 Women’s European Championships out in Switzerland, where England will try to defend their title. During the U19 Championship qualification, Beever-Jones scored five goals, which included a hattrick against Belgium in the second round. She then went on to score both of England’s goals in a 2-0 victory over Norway in the group stage of the tournament. She received her first call up to the senior team in May 2024, for all four Euro 2025 qualification matches, she made her debut the following July as a substitute against the Republic of Ireland. She has a total of four senior appearances and one goal for her country. Her first goal was one of the five that gave England the win over Belgium on Friday night.  

TEAM NEWS AND PREDICTED LINEUPS:

Alessia Russo and Lauren James, for England, have both departed camp early after suffering injuries on Friday night. They have returned to their clubs for further assessments and rehabilitation. In their place, Jess Naz and Michelle Agyemang have been called up to travel to Belgium, the call up being Agyemang’s first senior call up after qualifying for the U19 Euros on Saturday.

There are no known injuries within the Belgian squad which may see them lineup fairly similar to Friday’s eleven.

Belgium: Evrard, Philtjens, Tysiak, Illiano, Eurlings, Vanhaevermaet, Cayman, Toloba, Janssens, Teulings and Missipo

England: Earps, Bronze, Charles, Walsh, Williamson, Bright, Mead, Clinton, Russo, Toone and James.

The game will kick off at 7:30pm BST, and will be streamed live on ITV4 from 6:45pm.
