Born in Melbourne, Australia in 2001, Oscar Piastri is an F1 driver for Mclaren.
The young star began his racing career in his home country, in which he participated in karting from the age of 10. He discovered that he had a love and passion for the driving world and consequently decided to make the bold decision to let his passion take him to Europe, where he competed on an international level.
The move to Europe set the bar high for him, as he followed in the footsteps of other F1 sensations who did so – the likes of Mark Webber and Daniel Ricciardo. But he used his prior knowledge and experience as a springboard for success, allowing him to achieve two podium finishes in F4 UAE at the age of just 15.
For Piastri, the only way was up from there. He managed to achieve an array of successes – British F4 Runner up, Formula Renault Champion, F3 Champion and F2 Champion. He conquered junior racing and was not stopping there. F1 teams were fighting over who got the chance to acquire such a talent. Given he was a member of the Alpine Academy between 2020 and 2022, they were keen to gain the signature of Piastri, but the Australian opted to sign with Mclaren for the 2023 F1 season. He made his F1 debut at the Bahrain Grand Prix, in which he did sadly achieve only a DNF. However, he secured his first career podium in the 2023 Japanese Grand Prix – whilst still being a rookie.
The long-awaited 1st win came in 2024 at the Hungarian Grand Prix. 2024 was a year brimming with success for both Piastri and Mclaren as he significantly contributed to their victory in the 2024 Constructors’ Championship.
He is now a very well-respected driver in the F1 world as he continues to grow and improve. Mclaren will be keen to keep him tied down on a contract with his achievements list constantly growing. Currently, he leads the way in the Driver’s standings for 2025 and is shortly followed by his teammate Lando Norris – the pair are paving the way for endless success at Mclaren.
