The WSL departures and renewals ahead of the 25/26 season so far

Published on 15 June 2025 at 22:13

Although the transfer window doesn’t officially open until Wednesday 18th June, some departures and contract renewals have already been confirmed. Let’s take a look at what’s already known as we prepare for what could be one of the biggest transfer windows for women’s football yet!

ARSENAL

Arsenal’s departures may have been quieter than what fans were expecting with only Lina Hurtig, Amanda Ilestedt and Teyah Goldie known to be leaving. It is currently unknown where Lina and Amanda will go next but Teyah is suspected to stay with newly promoted London City Lionesses following her loan spell.

As for Manchester City loanee, Chloe Kelly, her future with the Gunners is unknown but it has been revealed the club are working to sign her on a permanent deal.

In terms of contract renewals, only Frida Maanum and Lotte Wubben-Moy are confirmed to have signed an extension. They were both part of the Champions League winning squad and bring a combined near 300 appearances of experience to the team.

ASTON VILLA

There have been six total departures for the Villains this season, two of which are loanees. Rachel Corsie, Jordan Nobbs, Dan Turner and Maz Pacheco are all their confirmed to be leaving the club upon expiry of their contracts. Jill Baijings and Katelin Talbert will return to their parent clubs following their success of their loan spells.

Rachel Corsie’s departure comes following her retirement from international football, her next adventure is unknown.

Rachel Daly and Sarah Mayling have both signed contract extensions which will take them through to June 2027.

BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION

Brighton made a last minute announcement before their last home game of the season to confirm they will lose five players, Poppy Pattison, Maria Thorisdottir, Guro Bergsvand, Dejana Stefanovic and Pauline Bremer will all depart the club at the end of the season.

Bruna Vilamala and Michelle Agyemang will both return to their parent clubs after completing a season long loan with the Seagulls.

Madison Haley is the only confirmed squad member to have signed a contract renewal. Across two seasons, Haley has made 28 appearances and scored three goals.

CHELSEA

Chelsea’s departures may have come as a shock to most when it was announced Sophie Ingle and Zecira Musovic would be leaving the club at the end of their contracts. Sophie has been sidelined for a period of time due to an ACL injury and will be hoping for an international return with Wales at the European Championships this summer. Zecira has also been sidelined for a period of time, but this time due to pregnancy, the Swede will be absent from this summers tournament.

Following Zecira’s pregnancy announcement, Becky Spencer was signed on loan from Tottenham Hotspur. While it is assumed that she will return to North London, nothing is confirmed yet.

Johanna Rytting-Kaneryd recently extended her stay with the Blues until 2027. Since signing for the club in 2022, the midfielder has made 59 appearances and scored nine goals. Confirmed this week, Swiss goalkeeper Livia Peng will join the Blues from the 2025/26 season, moving to the WSL from SW Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga.

EVERTON

Everton are also saying goodbye to quite a few players this season. Lauren Thomas, Maren Mjelde, Karoline Oleson and Rikke Madsen are all confirmed to be departing the club at the end of their contracts. It has also been confirmed that Emma Watson will return back to Manchester United after a successful loan spell.

Clare Wheeler and Kenzie Weir have both committed their futures with the club with contracts through to June 2026 for Weir and June 2027 for Wheeler.

The future of loanees Martina Fernandez and Louna Ribadeira is yet to be confirmed as there have been no announcements so far.

LEICESTER CITY

The end of the season has been quiet for Leicester City with only one departure confirmed. Lena Petermann will be departing Leicester after only two seasons. During her time with the Foxes, Lena has made 20 appearances and scored five goals.

LIVERPOOL

Liverpool will be losing one of Women’s football legends after Niamh Fahey announced her retirement. After joining the club back in 2018, Niamh has made 122 appearances across all competitions and was made club captain in 2020.

Yana Daniels, Jasmine Matthews and Teagan Micah are also set to depart the club this season. It is currently unknown what the future holds for the trio, but it is likely we will see Teagan in the ASEAN Women’s Championships this summer.

Sam Kerr and Alejandra Bernabe will be returning to their parent clubs following their loan spells.

The Reds are yet to confirm any new signings ahead of the 2025/26 season.

LONDON CITY LIONESSES

After promotion to the WSL, the Lionesses have announced six departures. Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah, Georgia Brougham, Megan Campbell, Lucy Fitzgerald, Emma Mukandi and Connie Scofield will all leave the club this summer and it is once again unknown where they will go next.

As mentioned above, Teyah Goldie has left Arsenal after spending the season on loan with London City Lionesses, nothing has been confirmed as to where she will go next but she is heavily linked with signing a permanent contract with the Lionesses.

MANCHESTER CITY

Manchester City have only confirmed the departure of two players this season which is a pleasant change from the past couple of seasons. Laia Aleixandri was the first to be confirmed, although fans may have been expecting her departure for quite some time after she expressed her interest of returning home to Spain. Jill Roord was the next to announce her departure after being at the club for two seasons. She will be returning to FC Twente on a contract running through to 2028.

Currently Laura Wienroither is on loan with the club and it is not yet been confirmed if she will return to her parent club, Arsenal, or if she will sign a permanent deal with the Cityzens.

MANCHESTER UNITED

Phallon Tullis-Joyce took over the role of first choice goalkeeper from Mary Earps exceptionally well, even winning the joint Golden Glove this season, and the fans will be excited to know she recently signed a new contract keeping her at the club until 2028.

Geyse has been over in the NWSL on loan playing for Gotham FC since the January window, her return is yet to be confirmed.

There hasn’t been any new signings announced ahead of the 2025/26 season just yet.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

Tottenham Hotspur have triggered the +1 option on the contracts of Ashleigh Neville, Olga Ahtinen, Kit Graham and Josefine Rybrink to keep them with the club until the end of the 2025/26 season.

It was recently announced that Martha Thomas and young talent Lenna Gunning-Williams have signed contract extensions through to the summer of 2028.

With Spurs finishing 9th in the table, the worst they’ve ever finished, and parting ways with their manager Robert Vilahamn, it would be unusual for them to not try and strengthen their squad with the aim of a better season.

WEST HAM UNITED

West Ham are another team to have had a clear out of their squad, with no contract extensions announced and no new signings, their squad is looking light heading into the summer transfer window.

Marika Bergman-Lundin, Shannon Cooke, Emma Harries, Kirsty Smith and Katelin Talbert are all announced to be leaving East London upon expiry of their contracts. Li Mengwen will also be departing the Hammers and will return back to her parent club after a successful loan spell.

So with the transfer window not yet open, if you could sign one player from any league, who would it be?
